As of this week, the updated statistics of interest for the Elective Option settlement program are as follows:
1] There are 1,764 cases currently on file in the Eastern District of North Carolina;
2] There are over 227,309 administrative claims filed with the Department of Navy;
3] Of those 227,309 claims, 59 cases have been fully resolved and paid; and
4] The average payment is approximately $235,000 per claim of those claims that have been fully resolved and paid.
Some points to consider:
1] These are the only claims of the 227,309 plus claims filed that have been fully resolved and paid;
2] The Elective Option settlement program is under the complete control of the Department of Justice and the Department of the Navy; and
3] A claimant can only participate in the Elective Option if the government selects a claimant to participate and then makes an offer to the claimant.
