Our team is totally focused on your claim and meeting the requirements of the Department of the Navy and the claims process as well as the requirements of litigation in the Eastern District of North Carolina. We now know that the Department of the Navy received over 540,000 claims prior to the Camp Lejeune Justice Act filing deadline on 10 AUG 2024. The volume of claims is impacting the speed of processing as the DON works through and confirms each claim. Our team continues to work with the DON staff to ensure all needed documentation is uploaded to the appropriate file in the “portal” and any request or questions from the DON are answered and resolved. Unfortunately, the volume of claims that the DON has under review appears to have slowed the resolution of claims via the Elective Option. There has been no significant change in the number of completely resolved claims and the average payout of claims. remains at an average of approximately $250,000 per claim. The “bellwether” (or “sampling”) trial process of selected cases is scheduled to begin this fall in the Eastern District of North Carolina is now projected to begin in the Spring of 2025. The results of these trials will better inform all sides of the litigated value of various tiers of claims. As noted in previous Updates, these bellwether cases will be tried without juries to one of the judges in the Eastern District of North Carolina. We are being notified by many of our clients that they are being contacted by scammers pretending to be other law firms that “need your information” to speed payouts. DO NOT RESPOND and notify our office of any contact by anyone that is not a recognized member of the Blalock Team. If you are unsure, hang up and immediately contact us.
